Desire Wisdom and Yield to Love

August 2024

Wisdom and love. What a combination! I discovered these in my own life when I was beginning to travel and teach the Word in my early twenties. I was influenced by a woman in ministry that I admired, and what stood out in her life were these two characteristics. The first thing I noticed was wisdom – an unusual wisdom to discern the dynamics of relationships: relationally between people with each other, with themselves, and relating to God. The fruit of wisdom was improvement resulting in peace.

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure (undefiled); then it is peace-loving, courteous (considerate, gentle). [It is willing to] yield to reason, full of compassion and good fruits; it is wholehearted and straightforward, impartial and unfeigned (free from doubts, wavering, and insincerity). (James 3:17 AMPC)

I sincerely desired this wisdom, so I sought it from the book of Proverbs. As I read about King Solomon’s dream in 1 Kings 3 and saw the purity in his desire for wisdom to help God’s people over riches and fame, it struck a chord in my heart. I desire wisdom from God, don’t you?

There is a narrow path to walk in our relationships with others; the path is the path of wisdom, and the motivation is love. At times it may seem difficult, but “the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,” (Romans 5:5) and all we have to do is yield to that love.

Certainly, I have missed it and I’m sure you have also, but God is love and the Greater One is in us. He forgives us when we act or speak outside the realm of love and wisdom.

Call upon your Helper, the Holy Spirit, and He will teach you how to walk in wisdom and love.

In Christ,

Annette Capps
